11 Things You Need To Know About Haxton Road Studios
Neil Greenhaw
#11. Amazing Monitoring
One of the major advantages to working at Haxton Road Studios is our amazing selection of monitoring. We specifically chose our monitoring to give our engineers the very best when it comes to tracking, mixing, and mastering. Our goal was musical accuracy so that our mixes translate when listened to from device to device. We have a pair of Barefoot MM-26 monitors and also a pair of ATC150ASL as well. Our monitoring path comes straight from the SSL console, so we're not upset about that either :)
#10. Our Services :: Artists
We offer musical artists the very best when it comes to our recording services. With the right team and state of the art equipment, we can help drive the process of any project from concept to completion. Read more about our artist services by clicking below.

Our Live Room is simply spectacular and sounds amazing for tracking. From drums to stringed instruments, the room was designed to give the very best results knowing that every session is different in it's nature and it's needs. Our live room has variable acoustics ranging from a 4.5 second decay all the way down to 1.5/2 seconds. The other great feature is the size of the room. We can host a traditional 3 or 4 piece band all the way up to a full choir or orchestra. All it takes is walking in the space and you can immediately hear the possiblilites.

#7. Content/Collaboration
At the end of the day, we are content creators. Whether recording a single, EP, LP, or even a live recording, the quality of content must be professional and captured in a collaborative way. In addition to the audio, video and photography are a must in today's digital marketing/social channels. We collaborate often when it comes to adding these elements and is solely based on the desired outcome and look/feel of the content. We work for independent artists all the way to label artists and also startup companies all the way to fortune 500 companies. Our team can drive the process from concept all the way to completion.
Here are a couple of music projects below we collaborated with our good friends at Adair Creative in Bentonville, Arkansas on. This is the "Overheard" series shot at various places around Northwest Arkansas. These are one take/no audio edit performances with multiple cameras. Enjoy!

#5. SSL Mixing Console
A major part of what makes a recording studio functional and help achieve the professional sound desired is a great console. They are generally known and referred to as the central control of the studio. At Haxton Road Studios, we installed a SSL (SOLID STATE LOGIC) AWS948 Delta Console which is perfect for meeting the needs of todays music; it's fully analog with SSL preamps, SSL EQs, and the legendary SSL Buss Compressor. It also has SSL's digital control which integrates with our professional DAW Pro Tools HDX & also Logic Pro. The sounds you can achieve coming straight into the console are amazing as is, but the flexibility it offers in routing options for mixing and mastering make it hard to beat.

#2. State Of The Art Facility
Haxton Road Studios was so carefully and intricately designed that studio owner, Neil Greenhaw met and designed the entire space with the help of local CGI artist, Taylor Boswell over the course of a year before taking the plans to an architect for actual drawings. This literally meant every surface inside and out, texture, wall shape, floor type, glass, and facade was studied and determined up front before making sure it even met all the building codes. The sound quality, acoustics, and the aesthetics were all of utmost importance in the initial design phase. Here is that CGI image of the outside facade that would be taken to the architect.
To our surprise, there really wasn't much that had to change that would affect those important project drivers listed above. The architect for the job was Dave Burris and he did an exceptional job listening to the needs and the specifications listed before him. He made the building meet codes and we started construction. Now for the technical part :)
When you build and outfit a state of the art recording studio, you really can't afford to short change any part of the process from what you see and especially what you don't see. Our clients usually walk in and say, "Wow, this is beautiful" or "This sounds so amazing." It's always normal to notice what is seen. What you won't see is a very carefully designed HVAC system that virtually can't be heard while recording. That same HVAC system was also designed to deliver a constant 45%-50% humidity to the rooms thus creating a thriving environment for proper instrument care, which includes the human voice. The electrical system was custom designed to a special isolated transformer to ensure audio integrity and to maintain consistency for all the recording equipment. Inside the double and triple walls with staggered studs that separate the rooms, you'll find specially rated insulation that virtually won't allow sound to travel thru so audio integrity can be maintained room to room. Also inside these walls you will find conduit with all top rated Mogami Gold cabling again ensuring the best signal. These cables all run from room to room and make their way back into a carefully designed control room for tracking, editing, mixing, and mastering. We hired a professional installation company from Nashville, Tennessee called Skinnyfish to make and install every audio cable found in the building. You'll find custom wall panels with Haxton's logo in each room also wired by Skinnyfish. The word used for OUr audio install needs was flexibility.
We will talk more about our specific rooms & our gear addiction in a later post, but it's important to note that there are multiple rooms and options available based on the desired sound needed at any given moment. Music is always changing, but the need for a quality tracking room and an accurate mixing/mastering environment will always remain needed.
